Going travelling is one of those once-in-a-lifetime experiences. A lot of people who plan to go travelling only go once but may have caught the travelling bug and go on lots of holidays after. Seeing the world is a real privilege that not everyone can afford, but the world has so much to offer. If you can go travelling, you should. Soak in the culture, the views and the wonderful people and cities all over the planet. Deciding to go travelling is a huge choice, especially if you plan to go for a long time. There are a lot of things you need to prepare and plan so you can travel with little stress and focus on enjoying the experience.

Plan Where You Are Going

One of the biggest and perhaps most relevant things to do is plan where you want to go. The world is your oyster and you can plan to visit in just one area or all over the globe. You may want to start by visiting places in the UK. There are beautiful and wondrous places to see in the UK like, Stonehenge, London, The Lake District, Cornwall and the gorgeous Scottish Highlands. Or you can think further afield, like travelling to places like Vietnam, Japan, Australia or Mexico. Once you have figured out where you want to go you can make a list of all the places you are visiting and then start researching what to do there. If you plan and pre-book activities to do while you are away you are more likely to stick to your schedule. You also won’t have to worry about running out of money while away as these things can be paid for in advance. However, the best way to truly travel a country and experience all it has to offer, is to go with as little booked as possible. This gives you the flexibility to change your plans if needed!

How You Are Travelling

Not only are there a lot of places to visit but there are also a lot of ways to travel. Do you want to travel the fastest way, the most scenic or just simply the cheapest? All of these are things to consider. If you are doing something like a Europe-only tour you could travel by car or caravan. A caravan is a great thing to have for someone who loves to travel, it can be your home away from home. You can decorate it inside, update it and get all the things you need like Dometic Caravan Awnings so it can be comfortable and run smoothly for your travels. You also could travel by train, boat or plane to longer distant locations. With these, you can look to book in advance so you know exactly when and where you are going, it will keep you on your itinerary so great for organised people. Not only that, but booking certain travel in advance can help to keep costs lower.

Keep Yourself Safe

Travelling alone or with people can be exciting but always consider your safety and be cautious. Try to be with others if you can and if you do travel alone make sure you have things with you to keep you safe like contact details for the local authorities in the places you are visiting as well as using technology to your advantage. With technology, you can get trackers and share the location of your phone with loved ones so they can see where you are at all times. If you are going somewhere remote that won’t have a lot of signal, then you can arrange with a family member to call them on specific days or times to check in and confirm you are safe.

Visit The Doctor

It’s also best to speak to a doctor before making travel plans. They will help advise whether there are any particular vaccinations or medication you need to have before you go to certain destinations. If you have any long-term illnesses or things like asthma where you need regular medication, you also want to ensure that you are able to get enough medication to take with you while you’re travelling. They can also help advise on what you should buy while you are away, if you do run out or lose your medication.

Get Insurance

Travel Insurance is one of the most important things to purchase before you travel. You can never predict the future so it’s always best to be cautious. Whether it’s health related, you lose your passport, something gets stolen or damaged, or you plan on doing activities such as skiing, skydiving or bungee jumping, you will want insurance to cover you. Otherwise, you could end up with a huge bill that you’re not able to cover.

What You’re Going To Pack?

When you go travelling, especially for a long time, you may plan to visit different places with different climates and temperatures. You need to be very wary of what you’re packing. If you’re travelling in a vehicle where you can pack different things, that is great as it gives you space to put everything. You can also be less concerned with bag weight.

If however, you’re going backpacking and all you’re taking with you is a backpack, then space and weight are crucial. You want to make sure you have all the important things like a passport, money, and medications, as well as things like clothes, emergency kits, and maybe even camping equipment, depending on your plans.

With clothes and packing your outfits, you need to be clever with how you take your wardrobe. You don’t want to take a lot of clothes as it’s just just going to be more things for you to carry. So focus on taking a capsule wardrobe so you can have a few basic items which can mix a match and create different outfits. This goes for shoes as well. My recommendation will always be a pair of flipflops and a pair of trainers. This covers you for pretty much most locations. If you plan on hiking, you could also take some hiking shoes but these are quite big and clumpy so if you don’t need them don’t take them as they can take up valuable space.
